I Am Thankful For The Senior Living Guide That Illuminated The Options That Seniors Have

While I had always understood in the back of my mind that one day my husband and I would get too old to be able to go up or down stairs quickly or even toss our grandkids in the air like we used to, I was not prepared for the days when it would be hard to get out of bed in the morning, and I have to thank the senior living guide I got for helping me understand a little better. Even with my newfound difficulties, I wasn't in the market for a retirement guide and it took a visit from a trusted and valued friend to put one in my hands.

This friend is our senior by a couple years, but his children went to school with our children and our families became quite close when we all lived a few houses apart a long time ago. He came to our home for an evening meal a while ago and we spent some time sharing stories and reminiscing about old times and lamenting that it had been so long since we had seen each other.

We were astonished when he informed us that he was going to be moving again, this time to a nearby retirement community since his health was failing and he was tired of living by himself after his wife had died a few years previously. The announcement was a major shock to us, but it was not long before we began hounding him with a number of questions about his new living situation and he responded by handing us a copy of the senior living guide that had helped him make up his mind.

We were worried about our friend and wanted to do what we could in order to help our friend get into the best living conditions possible, so we started reading the guide as soon as he had left. We actually really enjoyed what we were reading, especially the part where it outlined how these senior healthcare services didn't dehumanize or ridicule the elderly.

We went there to help our dear friend get settled into his new place and actually had the chance to converse with some of the people who work there and asked them some questions to help us understand better. We were so impressed with the experience that we assume if we start to get worse in the next few years, we'll move in and get the chance to be neighbors with our friend all over again!
