Baby Boomers-Where Will They Live?

In January of 2012, baby boomers officially began retirement. Based on statistics from the US Census Bureau, 10,000 baby boomers every day will reach age 65. Even at age 55, many can receive minor benefits. One of the largest considerations of this population is where they will live.

As adults grow into the senior stage, concerns for living arrangements are at the top of the list as something to plan for and transition into. Seniors today are provided many options. Many are able to take advantage of independent and assisted living since there is often no need for nursing care in earlier years. There are benefits of both assisted living and independent living. Most know of the traditional senior living, but many are unaware of another option available. In the past decade, there has been a strong development of retirement villages.

These villages are an attractive offer to seniors. There are two main differences between these and traditional senior housing. The price makes it a cost effective choice. Most retirement living charge a hefty entrance fee, plus a monthly fee on top of it. The annual fee charged by retirement villages can be afforded by the average senior.

Another difference is that the senior remains in their same home longer than in a traditional retirement community. Services that a senior would normally go to are brought to their them instead.

An active lifestle is still prominent with this living option. Just as much effort for planned social events go into village living.

The only downside to remember is that seniors are still responsible for caring for the home as they are still managing the responsibility of owning a home. However, as with anything, help can be hired.

With all that is offered in senior village living, it has become a preferred choice by seniors. In the past, many seniors who were low-income or without a retirement fund had no options that provided any real luxuries. With entrance fees averaging over 100,000 with retirement housing, it was often not on the list for many. These villages now make the playing ground a lot more even for those wanting to live an active and happy retirement.

It is all a matter of lifestyle. Having the correct information is key. Once a senior has the full knowledge of all that is available to them, it will be easier to make the best decision on living arrangements. With the many a la carte options available today, seniors are being afforded the retirement that they really want and deserve.
