An adult's sense of life and freedom can be quickly snatched away by a sudden illness or accident. The debilitating feeling can get drastically worse quickly by being confined to one's own home because of the physical difficulties to go outside. Or even worse, if they find it painful to even maneuver around their house people can get very depressed. A mobility scooter can be a powerful tool, to not only prevent depression, but also reverse him or her back to the vibrant productive person that the family has known for so many years.

The mobility scooter is not just a vehicle for transportation but an essential element to help maintain the quality of life they are used to. The investment in the scooter whether it is $2,000 or $5000 the value of the scooter goes well beyond the dollars and deserves to be insured. If the scooter to lost or stolen, the tragedy would be going without one after being used to it and simultaneously struggling to find the new funds to replace the scooter

There are currently no laws that we know of that require mobility scooter insurance. However it would seem like a responsible program to have such security, especially if you intend to use your scooter outdoors. As the saying goes "life happens" and you may not want to put such important item at risk. Having insurance is prudent behavior.

There are two main parts of this insurance. One part focuses on the vehicle and the other part focuses on the owner or any other people involved

The vehicle coverage should include parts, repairs and services for smaller incidents. For major accident or theft it could even replace the entire scooter. Scooters can have intricate parts that match their design to have expensive repairs.

Some policies are very similar to automobile insurance in that they include transportation to get you back home after the accident or other occurrence. It may also include a loaner scooter during the time of repair. If this is important to you then you will want to make sure that you insurance broker includes that clause.

Unique identification numbers are on some scooters in case it is lost or stolen. Never the less you should have pictures showing unique attributes of your vehicle

More and more vibrant and active senior citizens are purchasing mobility scooters because they make life better and they can get more done in a day. Insurance companies realize this and have chosen to customize policies to the life style of the owner. It is proper to shop around different insurance agents to get clear quotes before choosing which policy to sign.
