Winter is the time of year when many retirees and seniors like to head to warmer areas. For those who depend on a mobility scooter to get around, travel mobility scooters are perfect for a winter getaway.

There are many advantages to a travel mobility scooter.

For one thing they are designed to be portable. Because of that, they tend to be lightweight and easy to maneuver for both the user and the person who may be responsible for loading and unloading the scooter.

Because they are so compact in size, they are ideal for traveling, taking up a lot less space while you are getting to your destination. Since vacation condos, motorhomes or other accommodations tend to have a limited amount of space; it's nice to have a scooter that doesn't take up a lot of room when it's not in use.

Not only are travel scooters made from lighter materials, they are often designed to fold up when not in use. If you are traveling in a minivan or car, it is going to be easier to find a spot for a scooter that can be folded up than trying to fit in a scooter that doesn't collapse or can't be disassembled. There is no need for an expensive lift to load your scooter.

Think about how much more independent you can be if you have a mobility scooter to get around. You can do things when you feel like it instead of waiting for somebody to take you somewhere. Do some of the fun tourist stuff, go mall crawling, or just organize a visit with some friends.

There are a few things to look for in a travel mobility scooter.

Since you will probably be using it both inside and outdoors, you will want to find a scooter that is rated for both indoor and outdoor use. There is a difference in the construction of this type of a unit.

A good, solid base is a must so that stability does not become an issue. A unit with a sturdy base is best as it will help to prevent any tipping that could occur when you are faced with an irregular surface. Anti-tip wheels help greatly to support and stabilize the scooter when turning or when navigating over curbs.

Equally important is the comfort factor, especially if you will be spending a lot of time using your scooter. It's a good idea to get a well supported seat with dense padding.

There is a large variety of travel mobility scooters available. If a scooter is part of your life, and you like to travel, you'll enjoy having a portable scooter to bring along.
